　　一行人在校园里边走边聊。
　　李雪宁：Welcome ，Rose .I’m the representative of our university to see you have every comfort settling down here .You should live in the same room with Su Chai and I，we’ll be good friends . {欢迎你，萝丝。学校派我来确保你能在这里舒适地安顿下来。你和我和苏彩会住同一个宿舍，我们会是好朋友。}
　　Ross : It’s sweet to have you two as my roommates . {有你们两个做我舍友太好了。}
　　陈晓钢：As it happens ，I want a new roommate too .One of my roommates ，Lu Cunhua has gone aboard as an exchanged student ，just as you . I don’t mind if you take up his place . {巧的是，我也想要一个新舍友。我的一个舍友路存华跟你一样出国当交换生了，我不介意代替他的位置}
　　Ross : But I’m a …… {但我是……}
　　陈晓钢: ……Girl ---Just kidding .Here in China we are more conservative in the matter about boys an girls . {……女孩，只是开玩笑了。在中国我们对待男女问题更加保守呢。}
　　李雪宁：Never mind ，He’s stupid sometimes .Tell me if he upset you . {别管他，他有时爱犯傻。他敢惹你你就跟我说。}
　　陈晓钢：I wound sooner please you than upset you . Should you have any problem ， tell me too .It’s my pleasure to do you every favor you ask . {我会让你开心，不想让烦心。有什么问题都可以跟我说，无论是什么忙我都乐意帮你}
　　Rose : Oh thank you ，you are so sweet . {谢谢你们，你们人太好了}

　　众人走到女生宿舍楼下
　　李雪宁：Girls’ Dormitory ， boys stop your steps here . {女生宿舍，男生止步}
　　陈晓钢：（向萝丝）Chinese traditions ，trying very well separating boy from girl . My help is out of reach for you from here . {中国传统，男女授受不亲。我只能帮你到这了}
　　Rose : Oh ，I should do well enough with the help of girls. { 噢，我有女孩们帮忙就可以了}
　　陈晓钢：Of course you should .But don’t forget me ，I’m Jack Cheng ，my dear Rose . { 你当然可以。但不要忘记我哟，我叫杰克·陈，亲爱的萝丝}
　　Rose : Yes .Goodbye ，Mr Cheng .We’ll meet again soon enough . {不会。再见，陈先生，我们会很快又见面。}

　　三位女生在楼梯中往上走
　　Rose : （向李雪宁） Lin， Is it true that Cheng is boyfriend .It seems he is not bad a guy . {李，陈真的是你的男朋友吗？看起来，他人不错唉。}
　　李雪宁：Yes {是的}
　　Rose : oh ，would you please talk with me about your Romance ？ I do love stories of this kind . {噢，你能跟我说说你们的罗曼史吗？我很喜欢听这样的故事。}
　　苏彩： I’ll tell you that ，I witness how it happens . {我可以告诉你，我见证了他们的爱情。}
　　Rose : Oh，yes，please . {噢，是吗，快说吧。}
　　苏彩： Hush ，girl ，we have plenty of time about that. {不着急，姑娘，我们有时间慢慢说。}

　　陈晓钢、欧阳喜走在楼梯上，欧阳喜闷闷不乐。
　　欧阳喜：交换生来到中国就该说中国话。你们能不能好好说中文啊？非要吧啦吧啦说一大堆鬼话。
　　陈晓钢：周围那么多人都是说中文，好不容易来了个洋妞，当然跟她说洋话了。
　　欧阳喜：我争不过你，你跟她说个够吧。（生气加快步伐走向前）
　　陈晓钢：（站住）无端端发什么脾气？
　　
　　内景 学校英语角会议室 夜
　　作为远道而来的交换生，萝丝被邀请到英语角发言。
　　陈晓钢、李雪宁、萝丝坐在一起。陈晓钢与萝丝交谈。
　　主持人：下面有请来自美国的萝丝给大家发言。大家鼓掌欢迎。Ross ， It’s your turn . { 萝丝，轮到你了。}
　　萝丝看一眼陈晓钢，
　　陈晓钢：（握拳鼓劲）Just do it !
　　Ross : Yes . （萝丝走上讲台）
　　Ross : Good evening ， every one . I’m Ross ， from America . I come to you with good will : China should know more about the world ，and the world should know more about China . Please forgive me if I ask any improper question ， I don’t mean offence . I’m open-minded to the questions you ask me ， and give you answers gladly if I could . Thank you . {大家晚上好，我是萝丝，来自美国。我心存善念来到你们身边：中国应当更了解世界，世界应更了解中国。所以如果我问了什么不恰当的问题，请原谅我，我无意冒犯。对于你们问的问题，我是思想开放的，如果可以我很乐意给你答案。谢谢}
　　主持人：感谢萝丝同学的发言，下面有请……
　　萝丝回到原座位。
　　陈晓钢：Well done. { 干得漂亮。}
　　Ross : No ， I’m so nervous that I don’t know what I’m saying . { 不，我紧张到不知道说了什么。}
　　陈晓钢：Nerve mind， we don’t care what you say ，we are glad enough to see your beautiful facial expression and hear you musical voice . {别在意，我们不在乎你说了什么，我们看到你美丽的表情、听到你婉转的声音就很开心了}
　　Rose : You have such a sweet mouth ，Cheng ，no doubt Lin takes you as boyfriend . { 你的嘴巴真甜，陈，难怪李要你做她男朋友}
　　李雪宁：No ，I hardly remember any honey words he have ever said to me. {不，我不记得他跟我说过什么甜言蜜语}

　　陈晓钢、李雪宁、萝丝在校道上走着
　　陈晓钢：Ross ， may I ask if you believe in God ？ { 萝丝，我可以问你信仰上帝吗？}
　　Ross : Yes ，of course ，I do . { 当然可以，我信仰上帝。}
　　陈晓钢：I didn’t believe in the God you worship until I met you . Maybe I should ，Maybe God exists ，or why should there be as beautiful creature as you : golden hairs ，green eyes，and fair skin . {我在遇见你之前不相信你们敬仰的上帝。也许我应该相信，也许上帝真的存在，不然怎么会有你这样的人间尤物：金发碧眼，皮肤白晰。}
　　Ross : You are over flattering me . { 你太恭维我了}
　　陈晓钢：No ，I’m speaking the true .We don’t have such beautiful girls with golden hairs ，green eyes amongst us Chinese .Perhaps this is the reason we don’t worship your God .Maybe someday you will give me the honor of knowing more about your God . { 不，我在说实话，我们中国人当中没有金发碧眼的女孩，或许这是我们不信仰上帝的原因。也许某天你会让我更了解你的上帝}
　　Ross : I’m pretty sure that day will come ，and soon . { 我相当肯定这一天会到来，而且很快到来}
　　陈晓钢：Yes ， it suddenly occurs to me that there is a Shishi Sacred Heart Cathedral here in Guanhzhou ， not far away from our school . I have ever passed it by without going in . Should we go there together ？ {是的，我突然想起，广州这里有个石室圣心大教堂，我曾经路过那里但没进去，要不我们一起去那里？}
　　Ross : Done ，It’s a splendid idea . {一言为定，这个主意太好了}
　　陈晓钢：Would you come with us ，Xuening ？ { 雪宁，你要不要跟我们一起去？}
　　李雪宁：Go anywhere with anyone as you wish ， why should I care ，it’s none of my business .（突然生气离开） {你爱跟谁去哪里就跟谁去哪里，关我什么事}
　　陈晓钢：Alright ， I’ll go with Ross {那好吧，我跟萝丝去}
　　Ross : Your girlfriend is gone ， Cheng . { 你的女朋友走了，陈。}
　　陈晓钢：Never mind ， she won’t go far away . Not many people in China are religious though they have religious freedom . But just not being religious does not mean we are bad people .{ 别在意，她不会走远。虽然我们有宗教信仰的自由，但中国信仰宗教的人不是很多。可是不信仰宗教不能说明我们是坏人。}
　　Rose : Yes ， it’s worldly known that Chinese are kind and friendly . { 是的，全世界都知道中国人很善良友好}
　　陈晓钢：Even if some guys are truly bad ， they won’t burst into campus with guns to shoot the innocents， since they have no guns at all . Is it true that every American has gun ？ {即使有一些人真的坏，他们也不会闯进校园里用枪滥杀无辜，因为他们根本没有枪。是不是真的每个美国人都有枪？}
　　Rose : No ，I don’t own any gun， but my brother does . He got it as a gift from my father when He came to adult. { 不是，我就没有枪，但我哥哥有。是我爸送给他的成年礼物。}
　　
　　内景 男生宿舍 夜
　　宿舍内一片黑暗，欧阳喜已经在床上睡觉。
　　陈晓钢开门进来，开灯。
　　欧阳喜：（责怪）别开灯，有人睡觉
　　陈晓钢关灯，开小台灯，坐在自己的座位上。
　　陈晓钢：对不起啊，欧阳，我不知道你在睡觉。
　　欧阳喜：你为什么要知道，你左手一个Rose，右手一个雪宁，多风流倜傥啊，为什么要理我呢？
　　陈晓钢：怎么你这话听着像吃醋？ （脱衣服，准备洗澡）
　　欧阳喜：我吃醋怎么了，我就是爱吃醋。
　　陈晓钢：好吧，我只要右手边的雪宁，左手边的Rose你要你就追。
　　欧阳喜：我追什么Rose啊，我要追就追你。
　　陈晓钢：我呸，你是不是吃错药了。 （进浴室）

　　蓝天白云下雄伟的广州石室圣心大教堂
　　教堂前的广场一座雕像
　　陈晓钢、萝丝仰视高大的哥特式建筑，显得渺小。
　　Rose : I never expected such an amazing cathedral to be found in China . { 我从没想到在中国可以找到如此惊人的大教堂。}
　　陈晓钢：Yes ， it’s said that Shishi Sacred Heart Cathedral could match up with Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. No doubt It’s the place of God， it make me feel myself so very small. { 据说这个石室圣心大教堂媲美巴黎圣母院。难怪这是上帝的所在，让我觉得自己如此渺小}
　　Rose : Anyone is small in front of God . { 在上帝面前任何人都微不足道。}
　　
　　内景 石室教堂内 日
　　陈晓钢、萝丝走进教堂，看到教堂内富丽堂皇的装饰，吊灯，彩色玻璃等等
　　教堂内坐着许多人，陈晓钢、萝丝一起坐在其中。
　　陈晓钢: Splendid building ， elaborate decorations ，colorful Windows ，all these are beautiful . No doubt so many people around the world worship God . { 宏伟的建筑、精致的装饰、彩绘的窗户，难怪世界上那么多人敬畏上帝。}
　　Ross : It’s not the beauty of building or furniture we worship ，but that of God . { 我们敬畏不是建筑或装饰的，而是上帝的美。}
　　陈晓钢：Of course you do ，you know much more about God than I do . I’m rather ignorant about God . Pray ， Is it rude to praise the beauty of nun here in the church ？ 你们当然是。对于上帝，你知道的比我多得多；对于上帝，我相当无知。请问，在教堂里赞美修女的美会不会很无礼？}
　　陈晓钢望望见一位修女准备礼拜事宜。
　　Rose : It’s nerve rude to praise beauty ，for God creates all the beauty . { 赞美从来都不会是无礼，因为一切的美都是上帝创制的。}
　　陈晓钢：Then I should praise : you are more beautiful than the nun { 那我应该赞美了：你比修女还要美。}
　　Rose : （smile） Thank you ， but now better you praise God . { 谢谢，但是你现在最好赞美上帝}
　　礼拜开始。
　　陈晓钢、萝丝与众人唱赞歌。
　　
　　内景 继上景 日
　　礼拜结束，众人起身离开。
　　陈晓钢、萝丝仍坐着谈话。
　　陈晓钢：Sorry ，I’m not a good singer ， my lips are not meant for singing your pretty praise song - { 抱歉我不很会唱歌，不怎么会用我的嘴唇唱你们漂亮的赞歌……}
　　Ross : （亲一下陈晓钢）They’re meant for kissing . { 嘴唇是用来亲的。}
　　陈晓钢：（一惊）Oh ，You shouldn’t kiss me ， it’s quite a surprise . { 你不该亲我，有点意外。}
　　Rose: Take it as a little gift for all the honey words you said to me and bringing me here . { 就当这是一个礼物，回报你给我说的甜言蜜语，还有带我到这。}
　　陈晓钢：But we Chinese don’t kiss too often ，and if we do we take it seriously ，according to our traditions . { 我们中国人不经常亲吻。按照我们的传统，如果我们亲吻，我们是很认真的。}
　　Ross : Then I hope you follow your traditions and take it seriously . { 那我希望你遵照你们的传统，认真对待。}
　　陈晓钢：But I already have a girlfriend . { 但我早有女朋友了。}
　　Ross : I don’t care . {我不在意。}
　　陈晓钢：But she does . {但她在意}

　　参加礼拜的人都走了，剩下陈晓钢、萝丝在宏伟空旷的教堂内。
　　Rose : It’s time to go . { 是时候走了}
　　陈晓钢：May I linger a little longer ？ I suddenly have a strong feeling swirling up from the bottom of my heart . { 我能再停留一阵吗？ 我突然觉得心底有一股强烈的感觉袭卷而上。}
　　陈晓钢站在教堂内的走道张开手臂，抬头向上，闭着眼睛，身体慢慢转圈。
　　（摇镜头）教堂内穹顶在旋转。
　　Rose : What is it ？ { 什么感觉？}
　　陈晓钢：I don’t know . I only feel scared ， I feel myself so tiny and unimportant . Is it how we should feel when God is watching us from Heaven Above ？ { 我不知道。我满心敬畏，只觉得自己渺小而无足轻重。是不是上帝从天堂注视时，我们就该有这种感觉？}
　　Rose : Maybe， I get that feeling too ， sometimes . {或许是吧，有时我也有这种感觉。
　　陈晓钢：Trust in God or not ， I think ， human beings should have something make them scared ， so as to learn to be humble ， so as to keep searching for truth ， so as to follow pace of greatness . { 我想无论信不信上帝，人们总该对某些事物心存敬畏，如此才会学会谦逊，如此才会孜孜不倦地追求真理，如此才会追随伟大的步伐}

　　李雪宁百无聊赖趴在桌子上，下巴垫在一只手上，另一只手拿饲料喂笼子里的仓鼠。
　　仓鼠在吃饲料。
　　李雪宁：（一下子伸直腰），吃吃吃，就知道吃，你爸爸跟人家跑路了，你还有心情在吃。
　　苏彩发笑，走到李雪宁身边。
　　苏彩： 你的晓钢不会轻易抛下你的，雪宁。
　　李雪宁：难说了，你没看到他向萝丝献殷勤的热乎劲，好像一辈子没见过女人似的。
　　苏彩： （微笑）外国女孩是比较少见，等新鲜感过去，他自然有时间陪你了。
　　李雪宁：不一定，他整天萝丝长、萝丝短的，还管自己叫Jack Cheng，说不定就是个陈世美。
　　苏彩： 他不是这样的人，你要相信他。
　　李雪宁：怎么好像你比我还要了解他似的。
　　苏彩： 是你当局者迷，我旁观者清。
